fUSbrain days 2025: a growing community advancing Functional Brain Imaging

From its first edition in 2019, the fUSbrain Days conference has grown into a key event for the global community working on functional ultrasound (fUS) imaging of the brain. Organized by our Institute and sponsored by Iconeus, this year’s edition brought together 111 participants from diverse backgrounds—including physicists, neuroscientists, biologists and clinicians—to share their expertise and latest findings in the field.

Functional ultrasound imaging has established itself over the past decade as a powerful and versatile modality for high-resolution, real-time neurofunctional imaging. The conference continues to serve as a meeting point for all users of this emerging technology, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration.

Scientific Highlights

The program featured a dynamic mix of keynote lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and hands-on practical courses, covering the full spectrum of topics in functional brain imaging. Discussions ranged from neurovascular coupling and brain functional mapping to clinical applications, awake imaging, and technological advances.

Participants explored:
– Microvasculature and perfusion imaging
– Functional connectivity and brain networks
– Drug discovery and therapeutic monitoring
– Multimodal imaging and fUS methods
– Proof-of-concept studies in clinical settings

We were honored to welcome four distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Prof. Alessandro Gozzi, Director of the Functional Neuroimaging Lab at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Italy), expert in brain networks
  • Prof. Serge Picaud, Director of the Vision Institute (France), neuroscientist specialized in sensory processing
  • Dr. Sadaf Soloukey, MD/PhD neurosurgeon at Erasmus Medical Center (Netherlands), expert in intra-operative neuroimaging
  • Dr. Thomas Deffieux, Deputy Director of the Institute Physics for Medicine Paris (France), specialist in functional ultrasound

Their insights emphasized both the fundamental research applications and the translational potential of fUS imaging across neuroscience and medicine.

We are excited to announce the next major gathering of the community: fUSbrain week, to be held from August 30 to September 5, 2026, in Cargèse, Corsica.
Mark your calendars for this unique opportunity to dive deeper into functional ultrasound and connect with leading experts.
